Not an Ordinary Life by Eileen Younghusband (2025 Edition)

Guided by her favourite motto – “No problems, only solutions” – Eileen lived every chapter of her life with resilience and irrepressible spirit.

At just nineteen, Eileen joined the Women’s Auxiliary Air Force and was soon posted to the RAF’s top secret Filter Room, tracking enemy aircraft and helping to defend Britain during its darkest hours – work she kept secret for decades and would later recount in her award-winning novel One Woman’s War.

But Eileen’s remarkable story didn’t end with the war. In the decades that followed, Eileen turned her fierce intelligence and indomitable spirit to new causes: completing her university degree at eighty-eight, winning a British Empire Medal for services to education, fighting for greater access to life-changing medical treatments on the NHS, and becoming a beloved author and a familiar face on British television, inspiring audiences young and old.
